Golf Donnafugata Golf Resort & Spa
Donnafugata Golf Resort & Spa is a paradise for fans of this sport, boasting two tournament quality golf courses. The par 72 Links south course was designed by Franco Piras. The par 72 Parkland Signature north course was designed by Gary Player. To those two courses, we also add a golf school with 70 driving tees and pitch & putt greens. All these features make a Donnafugata a golfing enclave for the most demanding golfers.
The mild winter climate and constant breeze of the hot Sicilian summer make the Donnafugata Golf Resort & Spa the perfect year-round destination for playing golf on its two exclusive 18 hole courses. Both courses enjoy an enviable natural environment and have been integrated into the countryside with the greatest respect for local flora and fauna.
Special attention was paid with regard to the water destined for the courses so that only recycled water is used, making Donnafugata Golf Resort & Spa an ecologically sustainable Resort providing a habitat for numerous animals and symbolizing the perfect symbiosis between nature and sports. The resort also boasts a practice area with 70 tees and a golf school equipped with a video system as well as putting and pitching greens.
North Course – Parkland. This 6,666 meter, par 72 course was designed by the legendary Gary Player, the famous player and award-winning designer of over 200 courses around the world. The course flows through the Ragusa countryside which completely surrounds it and offers spectacular views in all directions for the players. There are some sand traps scattered along the tree-lined fairways and greens which present challenges of their own and are protected by deep bunkers. It is a picture-perfect course where the golfers can admire a 6th century Greek cemetery between strokes on the 6th hole, see animals and birds from the wetlands between the 2nd and 3rd holes against the backdrop of the two lakes they call home. In contrast, the 9th and 18th holes are located on the green areas adjacent to the Donnafugata Golf Resort & Spa, forming a natural amphitheatre with views of the suites, the 19th Hole Clubhouse, marvellous outdoor pool and spa.
South Course – Links. The par 72, 6,660 metre Links course was designed by Franco Piras, a well-known Italian designer on the international scene. This is also a championship course, but its features are quite different than the north course. The holes extend over two large valleys and their respective lakes. The fairways were created in the recently recovered areas on the sides of the valleys and their layout highlight and play with the changing colours of the seasons. A slender pine tree is the only tree on a course where large bunkers serve to frame the fairways. The well-protected greens stand out among the characteristic Mediterranean vegetation.
Golf Academy. Players trying golf for the first time, or anyone looking to lower their handicap, will find the Golf Academy at the Donnafugata Golf Resort & Spa to be a valuable ally in their quest. Making use of the most advanced technology and modern techniques combined with traditional methods, highly qualified instructors help all golfers to choose the equipment, learn the techniques and understand the psychology of golf. The Golf Academy offers golfers a wide variety of course from an introduction to golf to training courses for obtaining a permit, courses for children and advanced courses for more experienced players, whether individual classes or group clinics. Golfers are also offered a club fitting, thanks to the on-site workshops.
